El Jadida Horse Show: The Show Jumping Class Moves Up to Five Stars

T

he El Jadida Horse Show will hold its seventeenth edition from October 13 to 18 at the Mohammed VI exhibition park, and it will move up a rung there. The show jumping class it hosts, the third leg of the Morocco Royal Tour and a World Cup qualifier, leaves the CSI4*W grade for CSI5*W, the highest on the circuit, and is doubled by a CSI2* open to young or developing horses. The two other legs follow suit: Tetouan and Rabat turn their CSI1* classes into CSI2* events, alongside the CSI4*W competitions already on their schedule, with a 1.45-meter Grand Prix as the high point.

The rest of the program is what brings the breeders. Three competitions are given over to the kingdom’s own breeds and to the one that crossed them: the Barb Champions Cup, the international model and gaits class for the Arabian, “Title Show,” and the Arab-Barb Champions Cup. On the tbourida esplanade, sorbas from every region give their daily displays, and the cultural side keeps its art village and its conferences. Born in 2008, the show would take seventeen editions to make the Moroccan horse something other than a memory of fantasia: an industry now judged on poles and on pedigrees.
