orocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, and his Mauritanian counterpart for Equipment and Transport, Ely Ould El Veirik, signed a framework convention in Rabat on Monday, September 21, to rehabilitate and widen national road No. 4, which links Nouakchott to Nouadhibou.

The route runs for 480 km and is the Mauritanian stretch of the road that links Morocco to West Africa. The text provides for a joint engineering office in Mauritania to supervise the work.

Nizar Baraka stressed the durability of the work in the face of climate change’s effects on the region’s roads.

Neither the cost of the project, nor its financing, nor its timetable was made public at the signing. The joint engineering office will tell at what pace the 480 km will be taken back in hand.
