Renault Now Builds More Cars in Morocco Than in Spain

T

he milestone passed almost quietly. With 394,465 vehicles assembled in 2025, Renault’s Moroccan plants (Tangier in the lead with nearly 300,000 units, backed by the Somaca plant in Casablanca) outproduced the group’s Spanish factories in Palencia and Valladolid, at around 350,000 units. The kingdom thus becomes the carmaker’s second-largest industrial base worldwide, behind France.

The Spanish trade press (Motor16, echoed by Expansion) points to the steady rise of the Moroccan operation: expanded capacity, the port logistics of Tanger Med, a lineup largely built for export. A reversal that says much about how far Moroccan carmaking has come in fifteen years.
