elow the falls, the big screen has taken back its rights. The fourth edition of the International Mountain Film Festival opened on the evening of Wednesday, September 2, at Ouzoud, in the province of Azilal, under the theme “Mountain, Elevation and Peace,” and runs to September 6.

The evening honored the Moroccan director Daoud Aoulad-Syad, the Gabonese director and actor Jean-Claude M’Paka and the actor Saad Mouaffak, and paid posthumous tribute to Mostafa Derkaoui, one of the pioneers of Moroccan cinema.
The official competition lines up feature fiction from Turkey, Italy, Togo, Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Switzerland, Germany and Morocco, before a jury chaired by the thinker and critic Mohamed Noureddine Afaya.
Around the screenings, the “Panorama” section takes Moroccan films out into the open air, and a conference moderated by the writer Mohamed Achaari returns to the figure of the mountain in Moroccan storytelling.
The festival’s president, Bahija Simou, recalls that the event, born in 2023, has already brought the region close to four shoots. The first cinema hall in Ouzoud is under construction, and it will say whether the festival has done more than pass through.
