The addition would carry the kingdom’s capacity beyond 360,000 beds, against a little over 300,000 today. More than 190 billion dirhams are being mobilized before the deadline for rail and road, airports, stadiums and urban infrastructure.

“We see the FIFA 2030 World Cup as an accelerator, and not as an end in itself,” the minister said.

Tourism accounts for roughly 7% of gross domestic product. Close to twenty million travelers visited the kingdom last year, now the continent’s leading destination, and Bank Al-Maghrib expects record receipts of 161 billion dirhams in 2027.

The stake is also to widen the map beyond Marrakech and Agadir and to draw Chinese, American and Middle Eastern travelers. The target is twenty-six million tourists in 2030.
