eeting on Wednesday, September 2, at the Centre cinematographique marocain, the commission charged with naming the feature that will carry the Kingdom’s colors to the 2027 Oscar for Best International Feature Film unanimously chose “La Más Dulce,” by Laila Marrakchi.
The Centre grounds the choice in the film’s argument and subject, in its technical and artistic qualities, and in the distribution prospects open to it. Three other titles were in contention.
The hard part begins now. A national designation is only a ticket to the door, and the film would have to make its own way through a contest in which the distribution campaign weighs as heavily as the work.
The statement half concedes as much, by counting distribution prospects among its own criteria.
