Spain: Moroccans Are the Largest Foreign Nationality Paying Into Social Security

S

pain’s ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration published the July affiliation figures on August 14. For the first time the country counts more than three and a half million foreign contributors, precisely 3,512,223 on a monthly average.

Moroccans head the ranking by nationality, 415,310 of them, ahead of Colombians (347,467).

The figure states a mutual dependence: these affiliates pay in, accrue rights and weigh on the balance of a scheme that Spanish aging is straining.

That the largest foreign community in the Spanish labor market should be Moroccan, at the very moment Madrid and Rabat are negotiating their migration files inch by inch, will give these statistics a reach well beyond social accounting.
