orocco’s first battery gigafactory is entering its decisive phase: Gotion Power Morocco, a subsidiary of China’s Gotion High-Tech, announced on October 12 that the commissioning of its equipment in Kenitra will begin the week of October 20, 2026.

The plant will make lithium iron phosphate cells and batteries for the automotive and energy storage sectors, and will serve the African continent, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
The company says it has recruited more than four hundred Moroccan staff. “The start-up of the equipment, on October 20, is only a first step,” warns Khalid Qalam, chairman of its board.
On September 28, Gotion High-Tech and Volkswagen, one of its shareholders, announced a joint venture in Kenitra to produce 100,000 tonnes of cathode materials a year, enough to feed the cells from upstream.
If the ramp-up keeps its promises, the Kingdom will no longer settle for assembling other people’s electric cars. It will make their heart.
