n September 2, Morocco and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia signed a memorandum of understanding on modernizing public administration. It was signed by the commission’s Executive Secretary, Rania Al-Mashat, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni.

The text covers e-government, digital public services and regional and South-South cooperation. Both sides also commit to transparency and integrity in the public sector.
Above all, the Kingdom joins a regional project for inclusive, gender-responsive digital public administration, alongside Djibouti, Jordan and Somalia. A public administration index built on both dimensions will be developed and tested under it.
Al-Mashat noted that Morocco had climbed eleven places since 2022 in the United Nations E-Government Development Index.
A joint action plan is to govern what comes next. That is where, and not in the memorandum, the promised modernization will be judged.
