n 15 July, at its Kenitra site, the Stellantis group started production of two new Fiat SUVs: the Fastback, a coupe with a dynamic profile, and the Grizzly, roomy and family-minded. The ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, at a plant inaugurated by King Mohammed VI in 2019. Built on the new Smart Car platform and offered in combustion, hybrid and electric versions, the two models will target the African, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean markets, with a commercial launch set for the last quarter of 2026.
With this new phase, the plant will raise its annual capacity to 400,000 passenger vehicles, 135,000 micromobility vehicles and 350,000 engines, and will take on the manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles. Its workforce, up from 1,700 in 2019 to more than 7,200, is aiming for 9,300 by year’s end, while the local integration rate is set to climb toward 75 percent by 2030. Ceasing merely to assemble in order to design and export, the Kingdom asserts itself, year after year, as the automotive workshop of a continent.
