he 2026-2027 hunting season will open this Sunday, October 4, across the whole national territory, with the exception of turtle dove, whose season will not open until July 24, 2027, MAP reports, relaying the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF). Meeting in July, the Higher Hunting Council kept harvest quotas, the rules for organized drives and permit fees unchanged. The agency and the Royal Moroccan Hunting Federation gave the season its official start on Friday at the Palais des Congres in Marrakech, during a study day devoted to tourist hunting. The past season had drawn more than sixty-five thousand Moroccan hunters and nearly five thousand visiting hunters.
ANEF’s director general, Abderrahim Houmy, highlighted the leasing system, which entrusts the hunting rights over a territory to an association or a company: the number of leased lots rose from one thousand two hundred seventy-eight in the 2020-2021 season to one thousand seven hundred thirty-seven in 2025-2026, and their area from 3.35 to nearly 4.39 million hectares, since the launch of the “Forests of Morocco 2020-2030” strategy. One hundred forty-six specialized companies now run tourist hunting, which the agency intends to diversify, notably through bow hunting. It is by these figures that the season now opening will be judged.
