O

The figures of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which runs the operation, split that total almost to the unit: 2,068,821 arrivals by air and 2,068,773 by sea, forty-eight passengers between the two.

Peaks reached 80,000 arrivals in a single day over the weekend of July 31. Tanger Med alone took 670,169 arrivals, and the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca 544,089.

Marhaba remains a relief operation: 1,134 social workers and 236 doctors, paramedical staff and temporary hires were deployed, and 66,993 people received direct support from the Foundation.

The figure that will stay from this edition, though, is the split of the total between the plane and the ship. Arrival by sea, long the very image of the journey home, now only draws level with the air.

Reception itself will have to be thought out in the air terminals as much as on the quays.
