The Moroccan riders conceded only four penalty points over both rounds, level with France, Germany and Belgium, which forced a four-way jump-off.

First to go, Abdelkebir Ouaddar, riding Festival d’Argouges, went clear in 33.78 seconds, before France’s Jeanne Sadran and Dexter de Kerglenn beat him in 33.24 seconds.

The podium is no small thing: the newly appointed coach, Frenchman Philippe Rozier, had set himself two goals, a medal at the Mediterranean Games, where the team won two, and a return to a Nations Cup podium.

The tour now heads for El Jadida, its first five-star show, where most riders will open their indoor season.
