angladesh’s Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase approved on September 2 the import of 70,000 tonnes of Moroccan phosphate fertilizer from OCP Nutricrops under the government-to-government arrangement binding the two states.

The lot splits into 40,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate at $894 a tonne and 30,000 tonnes of triple superphosphate at $669.33, close to $55.8 million in all.

The price says more about the market than the tonnage does. Diammonium phosphate is being paid above the $891 the same committee approved on August 24, and well above the $781 average the World Bank recorded in July, and Dhaka is buying all the same, weeks away from the Aman season.

Bangladesh imports more than 85% of its fertilizer needs, which leaves it exposed to the smallest break in supply.
