Maritime Freight: Morocco Enters the EU Top 10 With the Sharpest Rise

P

ublished on July 16, Eurostat’s quarterly statistics place Morocco tenth among the extra-EU partners of maritime goods transport, in a ranking led by the United States.

What sets Morocco apart is the slope: traffic exchanged with the Union’s ports rose 14.4% between the third quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2025, the steepest increase of the ten.

The Union’s main ports handled 846 million tonnes over the quarter, for annual growth of just 2.4%. Morocco is therefore growing six times faster than the flow that carries it, while China falls 5% and Egypt 6.8%.

Two decades of investment along the Atlantic seaboard and the strait will have found their statistical expression here, that of a country become, for Europe, a partner of tonnage as much as of proximity.
